Don’t Let Anything Keep You From God

Don’t Let Anything Keep You From God

I woke up in the morning getting ready for school and what I hoped would be the best weekend ever. I went to school and did all the boring stuff we usually did, and went home to get packed for the weekend.

This weekend I was going on a church retreat with the youth group at my church called Winterfest, instead of playing basketball. At first I was depressed that I wasn’t going to the game but I remembered a saying my grandparents told me, “ Don’t let anything keep you away from God, “ and finding out that my team was facing the best team made me feel a little better about not going.

DING DONG! I heard as my mom rang the doorbell. We opened the door and my mom shoved a bag of chicken nuggets and the most delicious french fries into my arms and told me and my brother “ Eat up. When you are finished we are going to church to get on the bus and go. “ We jammed as much food in our mouths as possible and dashed to church.
When we got there we prayed and held hands. After the prayer was over Bruce (our youth minister) screamed as loud as a gunshot saying “ Potty now or forever hold your peace because it’s a two hour drive! “ We all sprinted to the restroom and got ready to go.

I would tell you about the buss ride but I slept the whole way so I can’t remember it, so i’m skipping to when we got there. When we got there I found out that the Texas Ranger Stadium was going to be right beside us. We parked beside a gigantic building and walked inside. At first it looked like a normal building, but when we got into the main room I freaked out because I saw the most colorful lights ever! There were stands with glow sticks, glowing mouthpieces, light up glasses and wigs! It was AMAZING!!!! I automatically knew I would have the BEST TIME EVER! We started singing about God and Jesus and watched hilarious skits that taught us life lessons and some just for fun. It started getting late so we went to the hotel and found out our roommates. I was lucky enough to have two of my friends as roommates and not people I didn’t know.

The next morning we woke up and spent 5 hours at the mall. We walked around and, saw some really cool stuff, but I had to save up money so I could eat, so all I bought was a really cool Philadelphia Phillies hat. At noon we were about to leave the mall but first I got a 12 piece nugget from Chik-fil-a.

When we left the mall we went to the worship center and comedians came that made improv skits out of any idea you told them. they were more hilarious than the show ridiculousness. They were called something like 426 improv. We sang my favorite christian songs and watched more videos that taught us what we should do if someone didn’t really know about God. We learned that we were gods sheep and he was our shepherd and when teaching us that, they brought live sheep onto the stage. When we sang we were hitting around beach balls and it was so fun! We did all that until it got late and then went back to the hotel.

The next morning was the morning that we all went home and we were all depressed that it was over but we had so much fun so it was alright.

After we all got home I was so glad that I went because I got closer God and my youth group and had fun while doing it. I realised my decision about going to the retreat instead of my basketball game was one of the best decisions I ever made because it was for a great and fun reason.
